CIESIN director Alex de Sherbinin gave a keynote address at the launch of the Swedish Competence Centre for Satellite-Enabled Social Science Analytics (SESAC) at the University of Lund, Sweden, on 5 March. Dr. de Sherbinin's presentation focused on the work of the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) from 1998-2025. In the presentation he described the rationale for establishing SEDAC in the 1990s as part of NASA's Mission to Planet Earth, and then described SEDAC data sets, data citations, and open science, as well as SEDAC's focus on social science and policy applications of remote sensing data.
