NASA Awards $20 million to CIESIN for Continuation of the Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC)

CIESIN has received a $20 million contract from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to operate the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) in support of the application of remote sensing data in research and decision-making.

CIESIN Web site supporting the Data, Methods, and Synthesis Activity of the AIACC Program (Assessments of Impacts and Adaptations to Climate Change in Multiple Regions and Sectors)

Climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability are the subject of this new website, which serves as a resource for a project funded by the Global Environmental Facility entitled Assessment of Impacts and Adaptations to Climate Change in Multiple Regions and Sectors (AIACC). The website provides bibliographic resources, methods and tools, and a synthesis of research efforts by 24 AIACC project research teams. Developed by CIESIN in collaboration with Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig and Dr. Ana Iglesias of Columbia's Center for Climate Systems Research.

Population-Environment Research Network Web site redesigned

The Population-Environment Research Network Web site has recently been redesigned. The new Web site features improved functionality.

Human Footprint Map Featured on NASA Earth Observatory Images

March 5, 2003

The map was created using geographic information systems to combine global land use and land cover maps with population data. Four types of data were chosen to measure human influence: population density, land transformation, human access, and power infrastructure.

2003 Open Meeting of the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Research Community

CIESIN is co-sponsoring the 2003 Open Meeting of the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Research Community, which will be held October 16-18, 2003 in Montreal, Canada. The local host is the McGill School of the Environment, and the meeting itself will take place at the Wyndham Hotel. The overall theme of the Open Meeting is "Taking Stock and Moving Forward." Presentation proposals are now being accepted at the Open Meeting Web site.
The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2003.
